The basics of acne management boil down to cleanse, treat, prevent & protect.

Cleanser: Neutrogena oil free acne wash. Love it. Has salicylic acid as it’s active ingredient. Effective to help treat and prevent acne without overdrying.

Treat: Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Vanishing Acne Cream. With benzoyl peroxide as it’s active ingredient, it can help clear up active acne.

Treat/prevent : Differin. This used to be a prescription and went over the counter a few years ago. It’s a retinoid that chemically exfoliates, unclogs pores and reduces oil production. It treats and prevents new acne. It has the added benefit of improving the appearance of acne scars. Before going to the dermatologist office, it’s worth a try!

Protect: Cerave AM or PM face cream. Am has a sun block while pm is hydrating. Acne products work by drying or exfoliating the skin. It helps to replace lost moisture by rehydrating the skin with a noncomedogenic moisturizer. A sunblock has the added benefit of reducing the risk of scarring from acne.
