The basics of acne management boil down to cleanse, treat, prevent & protect.
Cleanser: Neutrogena oil free acne wash. Love it. Has salicylic acid as it’s active ingredient. Effective to help treat and prevent acne without overdrying.
Treat: Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Vanishing Acne Cream. With benzoyl peroxide as it’s active ingredient, it can help clear up active acne.
Treat/prevent : Differin. This used to be a prescription and went over the counter a few years ago. It’s a retinoid that chemically exfoliates, unclogs pores and reduces oil production. It treats and prevents new acne. It has the added benefit of improving the appearance of acne scars. Before going to the dermatologist office, it’s worth a try!
Protect: Cerave AM or PM face cream. Am has a sun block while pm is hydrating. Acne products work by drying or exfoliating the skin. It helps to replace lost moisture by rehydrating the skin with a noncomedogenic moisturizer. A sunblock has the added benefit of reducing the risk of scarring from acne.
Oil of Olay Total Effect 7 in 1 Moisturizer. This product really gives the skin a nice glow and minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Roc Deep Wrinkle Serum. The retinol in this product is effective at reducing the appeal of fine lines and wrinkles while the product itself is lightweight and not overly drying.
Anything with zinc or titanium. The cheaper the better because studies show that you are more likely to use it and use it effectively by applying it generously. The most common choices here are drugstore brands, Neutrogena Baby Faces, Vanicream.
Products for sensitive skin:
The entire Vanicream line. This products is free of dyes, fragrance, lanolin, paraben and formaldehyde. It’s the perfect choice for people struggling to find products that are not irritating to their skin.
